Erebor Dwarf Helmet by Gibbtall Erebor Dwarf Helmet by Gibbtall
So here is something I've been working on. This is the helmet for my Erebor Dwarf from the prologue scene in The Hobbit. It's made from EVA foam and will eventually be a full suit of armour. The face plate is magnetized to let me pull of sections to eat and cool down.

Check out my progress log for logs more pictures www.therpf.com/f24/hobbit-ereb…

I'd love to see a demonstration of you pulling off the face plates and showing all the little magnetized kinks worked in! This is incredible! :) It looks fun to wear! o3o

Good idea, maybe I'll make a video sometime. Certainly of the entire costume once it's done as I've got ideas to solve some problems. I just moved to Vancouver though so I'm apart from it for a few more weeks until I get settled and have it shipped to me.

This is amazing. I tried foam for the 1st time last week and started a build off your post. Came out good, but yours is just gorgeous. Plus i bet your first, mines a bit tight inside. Thanks again.

Thanks! Mine's a bit tight too. I'm still debating cutting out some room for my ears. I have a feeling that if I wear it for more than the few minutes I have been it'll get me pretty hot and bothered.

I vividly remember seeing this up close at the Desolation of Smaug premiere. I still have the photo that my sister (Radagast) took of you after the film! (Which I can send to you, if you'd like.) You have no idea how excited I was to see such craftsmanship. The details and accuracy just blew my mind! Thankfully, my fake Bifur beard was hiding the big stupid grin on my face.

You've encouraged me to give EVA foam a try. I'm not sure what I'll make from it yet but when I saw your helmet, inspiration hit me like a dwarven warhammer to my orcish face.

In response to one of your forum comments on the RPF site: there may be others who craft similar dwarven armour, but to me, yours will always be the first and the best. I mean, I saw it with my very eyes and everything.

I'm really looking forward to seeing your completed Erebor set! Amazing work so far, man.

Thank you so much! I absolutely love your's, your sister's, and your friend's costumes! They were all amazing and done super quickly! In the year between The Hobbit and Desolation of Smaug I was only able to finish the helmet. We'll all have to organize a proper event for the third premier, since there wasn't one this time. Go for it with the foam, it's an awesome building material and there are TONS of threads on the RPF that explain how to use it.

Thanks! I find the RPF community and way of posting better so I haven't been updated here. I'll post some more of the progress shots but keep an eye out for me on the RPF for more work.
